For the final two chapters of 20 Years: Re-Coded, adidas and Yohji Yamamoto playfully subvert signature colours and juxtapose all-over graphics with stripped-back elegance as Y-3 autumn/winter 22 delves into the past in order to boldly envisage a visceral new future. Repurposing and reimagining key moments from the brand that changed fashion forever, the spirit to revolutionise tomorrow pushes Y-3 forward and inspired LN-CC to re-enlist 3D artist and art director Harriet Davey (AKA Harriet Blend) to place it in her wildest virtual daydreams.

“If viewers feel somehow moved, at peace, and disturbed, then I would say my goals are accomplished,” Harriet teased us previously. Here, the Berlin-based artist styles her otherworldly, binary-balancing forms in two autumn/winter 22 looks as they explore a snow-dusted utopia.

“Together with Adidas, we created something that did not exist before — and completely projected the future,” Yohji Yamamoto told award-winning German filmmaker, photographer and close-friend Wim Wenders in Interview back in 2013, marking 10 years of the collaboration. They truly did. When the Poet of Black launched his collaborative line with Adidas, Y-3 kick-started two global, industry-defining trends: high fashion sportswear and a new breed of co-branded design. “Adidas is a very personal inspiration to me and it has enriched my creative life,” he continued. It’s not just another collaboration, it is the collaboration. It’s an exchange between different cultures, different approaches, different ideas, and most of all, it is teamwork. With 20 years of Y-3 behind them, the duo have continually shown that the poetry and purity of Yamamoto's tailoring and conceptual skills can be applied to the world of sportswear with the technical ingenuity and innovation of the German giant. Y-3 autumn/winter 22 is a celebration of the past, present and future of this ever engaging exchange.

In Memories of Orange, Y-3 shines a light on this most iconic of signifiers, contrasting the luminosity of the pantone with black and neutral palettes, while simultaneously incorporating evocative references to a sport that has remained an unending influence – football. Meanwhile, Memories of Exotics delights in the duality of distortion and elegance as animal prints and all-over graphics breathe new life into the brand's undeniable legacy. Mirroring this sentiment, LN-CC encouraged Harriet to work with her trusted network of collaborators to build a post-earth, post-time world in which to suspend the collection. As she imagined the characters and landscape, digital fashion specialist Ponz recreated the cosy tailoring and transformative garments virtually, while composer and musician Imogen Davey soundtracked the post-time moment.
