Within its acclaimed spring/summer 22 collection, Y/Project placed its kaleidoscope of distortion over the Fila archive. Reimagined at the hands of Glenn Martens and his growing team, familiar sportswear staples – the T-shirt, the hoodie, the polo dress, the windbreaker, the cap – are spliced, twisted, and contorted. Each transformative piece is characterized by details that allow multiple ways to wear the garment, making it one’s own: double collars, strategically placed snap buttons, asymmetrical buttoning, double sweats, and a shoulder strap that looks caught in the wind. There is not one single way to own an item: everything is possible, and independent interpretations are welcome. Throughout, the collaborative capsule exudes a bold streetwear feel that is made even bolder by the graphic play of juxtaposed logos.

As part of its 110th anniversary, the Biela-born sportswear giant is celebrating the innovative and daring spirit of the brand with unexpected collaborations that propel the action one step further. Few brands restore our faith in the power of collaboration than Glenn Marten’s Y/Project. Since his appointments as Creative Director in 2013, Glenn Martens and his growing team of tailoring tricksters continually push possibilities and ignite imaginations by transforming the familiar into the unexpected as its ingeniously off-kilter constructions challenge our preconceptions of how garments should look and how they should be worn. “Y/Project has always been such an explosive mindfuck, and I'm still gonna be super creative and over-experimental at times, but I don't think I need to scream too loudly anymore,” Glenn explained in the build-up to the spring/summer 22. To create this collection, Glenn had a full six months to reflect, refract and refocus and today, the “mindfuck” is more of a soft-power movement and this collaboration with Fila encapsulates the subtle shift.

Informed by Glenn’s memories of Fila’s appeal in the Belgian gabba and techno scenes through the 90s and 00s, the co-branded capsule sees grey jerseys, technical nylons and cotton pique knits filtered through the forever playful Y/Project lens. These are sportswear staples, but not how you know them.
